Job summary

Swanwick School & Sports College is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to work with pupils with special educational needs, predominantly in the Primary department. The role requires supporting pupils to access learning using a range of approaches, including sign, augmented communication and intensive interaction.

You will work as part of a team to support behaviour, adapt activities and provide individual or small-group assistance across Key Stages 1–4, including helping with personal care

Qualifications

• Experience supporting pupils with special educational needs.
• Ability to work effectively in a team to support learning and behaviour.
• Familiarity with sign language, augmentative and alternative communication methods.

Responsibilities

• Understand how children with special needs learn and adapt activities accordingly.
• Assist pupils to access learning using specialist approaches including sign language and AAC.
• Support pupils with managing social and emotional barriers to learning.
• Provide additional support with breaks and lunchtime activities where required.
• Demonstrate empathy and build trust with pupils and colleagues.
