Job description

ABC Teachers is looking for skilled SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN School in Birmingham on a full-time basis.

About the role:

  • Ability to work confidently with students with a range of Social, Emotional or Mental Health (SEMH) needs in Key Stage 3.
  • Develop strong, professional relationships with the pupils to understand their range of complex needs and how best to assist them in school.
  • Assist the class teacher with the delivery of planned lessons and support with smaller groups or 1:1 during class activities.
  • Assess and monitor student s progress, using assessments from their home schools and robust baseline diagnosis, aiming to reduce the impact of their medical conditions on their educational outcomes.
  • Full time position available for an immediate start, with potential for ongoing work for the right candidate.

  • The school supports people in years 7-9 who haven t been able to access mainstream education for reasons relating to their SEMH needs.

About you:

To be considered for the skilled SEN Learning Support Assistant position, you will:

  • Have previous experience working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs, such as learning difficulties, autism, and sensory needs.
  • Suitable qualifications such as Youth Work, Health and Social Care or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools are desired but not essential.
  • Have strong communications skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students
  • Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
