Job Description:

Do you have a passion for helping vulnerable young people with complex needs and behaviours, empowering them to overcome barriers to learning?

Fresh Start in Education is looking for experienced and person-centred SEN Learning Support Assistants with a background in complex needs. The role involves working with a non-verbal teenage young man with autism and learning, communication, and sensory needs.

Based in Weymouth, Dorset, the role includes planning and delivering learning and engagement activities at early years levels, as well as providing communication, emotional, and behavioural support. Knowledge of PECS or Makaton is desirable. You will work alongside other professionals providing different aspects of care.

The placements
  • Working with your student on a 1:1 basis in their residential home, alongside support staff
  • Planning and delivering 2-5 sessions per week, each between 3-6 hours, during school hours and term-times only
  • Placements organized and supported by our dedicated teams
  • Bank Staff worker – providing provisions as needed, paid via PAYE
What you need to apply
  • Minimum of 2 years’ professional experience working with vulnerable children or young people with additional needs (SEN, SEMH needs, and other barriers to learning)
  • Experience supporting numeracy, literacy, and communication skills in creative, practical, and engaging ways
  • Knowledge of PECS or Makaton is desirable
  • A commitment to safeguarding and up-to-date knowledge of child protection
