Job summary

YMCA Fairthorne Group is seeking a dedicated SEN Keyworker to provide 1:1 support for a child with additional needs in a nursery setting. You’ll help the child participate in activities, build confidence and develop independence alongside a friendly Early Years team.

You’ll work closely with families, teachers and caregivers, maintain records, and follow individual care plans to ensure safe, inclusive participation for every day. This role values patience, empathy and consistent trust.

Qualifications

• Level 3 Early Years or Childcare qualification and experience of supporting children with disabilities or additional needs on a 1:1 basis.
• Good safeguarding understanding and experience of supporting behaviour.
• Experience with SEND from babies to age five; Paediatric First Aid and personal care experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent 1:1 support for a designated child.
• Help child engage with activities and play with peers.
• Adapt experiences so they can participate fully.
• Encourage communication, confidence and independence.
• Champion the child's individual needs and build trust.
• Work with Early Years colleagues for consistent support.
• Maintain clear communication with parents and carers.
• Complete daily handovers and records.
• Support agreed behaviour strategies and follow care plans.
• Assist with personal or intimate care when needed; assist with medication per procedures.
• Follow safety, safeguarding and health protocols.
