Job description

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced SEN HLTA to join an inclusive and nurturing team at a wonderful school. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children with a wide range of additional needs, both in class and through targeted interventions. Beginning September 2025.

Working closely with the SENCO and teaching staff, you will play a key role in supporting the learning, progress and wellbeing of pupils with SEND. You will lead small-group and 1:1 sessions, contribute to personalised learning plans, and help ensure every child can thrive.

Duties as SEN HLTA:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality interventions to support pupils with SEND, including those with EHCPs.

  • Provide in-class support to help pupils access learning and remain engaged.

  • Support the assessment and monitoring of pupil progress, maintaining accurate records.

  • Adapt resources and learning tasks to meet individual needs and learning styles.

  • Promote independence, self-esteem and positive behaviour.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, outside agencies and parents/carers.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of EHCP targets and individual learning plans.

  • Support inclusive practice and contribute to the wider life of the school.

Ideal SEN HLTA:

  • Have HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience.

  • Have substantial experience working with children with a range of special educational needs (e.g. ASD, SEMH, MLD, SLCN).

  • Be confident in delivering literacy, numeracy and/or social skills interventions.

  • Show empathy, patience and high expectations for all pupils.

  • Be an effective communicator with staff, families and professionals.

  • Be proactive, flexible and a strong team player as a SEN HLTA.

  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
