Job description

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced SEN HLTA to join an inclusive and nurturing team at a wonderful school. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children with a wide range of additional needs, both in class and through targeted interventions. Beginning September 2025.

Role Overview

Working closely with the SENCO and teaching staff, you will play a key role in supporting the learning, progress, and wellbeing of pupils with SEND. You will lead small-group and 1:1 sessions, contribute to personalised learning plans, and help ensure every child can thrive.

Duties as SEN HLTA:
  1. Plan and deliver high-quality interventions to support pupils with SEND, including those with EHCPs.
  2. Provide in-class support to help pupils access learning and remain engaged.
  3. Support the assessment and monitoring of pupil progress, maintaining accurate records.
  4. Adapt resources and learning tasks to meet individual needs and learning styles.
  5. Promote independence, self-esteem, and positive behaviour.
  6. Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, outside agencies, and parents/carers.
  7. Assist with the development and implementation of EHCP targets and individual learning plans.
  8. Support inclusive practice and contribute to the wider life of the school.
Ideal Candidate
  1. Hold HLTA status or an equivalent qualification/experience.
  2. Have substantial experience working with children with a range of special educational needs (e.g., ASD, SEMH, MLD, SLCN).
  3. Be confident in delivering literacy, numeracy, and/or social skills interventions.
  4. Show empathy, patience, and high expectations for all pupils.
  5. Be an effective communicator with staff, families, and professionals.
  6. Be proactive, flexible, and a strong team player.
  7. Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
