Job summary

Aspire People are recruiting an SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant for a full-time role in Hinckley, starting in September. The ideal candidate is a Psychology graduate or someone with a strong interest in Special Educational Needs, aiming to gain hands-on experience supporting children with additional needs.

You will work with pupils one-to-one and in small groups, adapting activities and promoting wellbeing, under the guidance of experienced staff.

Qualifications

  • Hold a minimum 2:2 undergraduate degree, ideally in Psychology or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with children or young people through schools, tutoring, care, coaching, youth work, or voluntary roles.
  • Able to support children with SEN including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, SLCN, MLD/SLD, and sensory needs.
  • Compassionate, resilient, and able to stay calm in challenging situations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Available to work full-time, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups throughout the school day.
  • Adapt learning activities to suit individual needs and learning styles.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage emotional wellbeing.
  • Help pupils develop communication, social, and life skills.
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and differentiated learning.
  • Work alongside SENCOs, teachers, and external professionals to ensure pupils receive the highest level of support.
About You
  • Hold a minimum 2:2 undergraduate degree, ideally in Psychology or a related discipline.
  • Have previous experience working with children or young people through schools, tutoring, care, coaching, youth work, or voluntary roles.
  • Feel confident supporting children with a range of Special Educational Needs, including:
    Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
    Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
    Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
    Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
    Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
    Sensory processing needs and associated behaviours
  • Are compassionate, resilient, and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Possess strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Can commit to working full-time, Monday to Friday.
