Job summary

TipTopJob in Cambridge is seeking a passionate SEN Food Technology Teacher to deliver hands-on lessons to pupils with diverse SEND. You can choose day-to-day cover or longer-term placements, with flexible scheduling and ongoing support from a local consultant.

You'll focus on practical cooking, nutrition, and life skills in a safe classroom/kitchen setting, adapting activities for ASC, MLD/SLD and SEMH needs, while collaborating with teaching assistants and staff to track progress.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS or equivalent UK qualification.
  • Strong knowledge in Food Technology, Home Economics, or Hospitality and Catering.
  • Experience adapting practical lessons for diverse SEN profiles.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical, engaging Food Technology lessons to pupils across primary or secondary age groups with SEND.
  • Focus on teaching fundamental culinary skills, kitchen safety, nutrition, independent living skills, and hygiene.
  • Create a calm, structured, sensory-aware classroom/kitchen environment with clear visual instructions and positive behaviour management.
  • Adapt recipes and tasks to EHCP targets and varying fine-motor or cognitive abilities.

We are experiencing high demand for enthusiastic teachers to deliver engaging Food Technology and hospitality lessons tailored to pupils with diverse Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Key Responsibilities
Deliver practical, engaging, and adapted Food Technology lessons to pupils across primary or secondary age groups with needs such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate/Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Focus on teaching fundamental culinary skills, kitchen safety, nutrition, independent living skills, and hygiene at an accessible, step:by:step pace.
Create a calm, structured, and sensory:aware classroom/kitchen environment using clear visual instructions and positive behaviour management strategies.
Adapt recipes and tasks to suit individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets and varying fine:motor or cognitive abilities.
Work closely with Teaching Assistants and support staff to ensure all practical activities are conducted safely and inclusively.
For long:term roles: plan, assess, and track student progress against personalised learning goals, participating in EHCP reviews where required.
What We Look For
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification (Unqualified Teachers/Instructors with extensive SEN Food Tech experience are also welcome ).
Strong subject knowledge in Food Technology, Home Economics, or Hospitality and Catering.
Proven patience, resilience, and a creative approach to adapting practical lessons for diverse SEN profiles.
Excellent awareness of health and safety, food hygiene, and risk management in a practical learning environment.
A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).
