Job description

SEN English Teacher

Remedy are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN English Teacher to join a dynamic team in a nurturing Alternative Provision (AP) setting in Witham. This is a unique opportunity to make a profound impact on the lives of young people who have faced barriers to learning in mainstream education.

You will lead the delivery of high-quality, tailored English lessons to students with a range of special educational needs, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and other complex learning profiles. Your creativity, patience, and resilience will inspire and empower students to re-engage with education and achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons across KS3 and KS4, adapted to meet individual needs
  • Support students with varying SEN profiles to develop literacy skills, communication, and a love of learning
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
  • Work closely with the SENCO, pastoral staff, and external agencies to support each student's EHCP and wellbeing
  • Track and report on student progress, using formative and summative assessments
  • Contribute to the wider life of the provision, including enrichment, mentoring, and behaviour support initiatives

What We're Looking For

Qualified Teacher Status /PGCE (QTS or QTLS) not compulsory

Experience teaching English, ideally within an SEN, PRU, or AP setting

Strong knowledge of strategies to support learners with SEND, especially SEMH

A trauma-informed and relationship-based approach to teaching

Excellent communication, adaptability, and teamwork skills

A resilient, reflective, and compassionate attitude
