Job description

ABC Teachers is currently seeking an SEN English Teacher with QTS to join a passionate and supportive Team on a full-time, permanent basis in an SEN school in Leicestershire.
This is a unique opportunity to work in our innovative outdoor education setting, supporting students aged with special educational needs. Located in a growing Leicestershire site near Loughborough, this setting offers a truly alternative and nurturing approach to education combining academic development with therapeutic, nature-based learning experiences.

Working Hours:
- Monday - Friday (08:30am-15:30pm)
- Term Time Only, 190 contact days
- 5 inset days

About the role

• Deliver engaging, creative English lessons to small groups of learners,
• Use academic and pastoral targets to guide student development.
• Incorporate outdoor learning into your sessions wherever possible.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
• Adapt your teaching to meet individual needs, underpinned by an understanding of how autism can present uniquely in each student
• Work closely with the wider team, including SEN specialists and pastoral staff, to create and maintain a safe, consistent learning environment
• Help students process and retain new information, supporting both cognitive and emotional development

About the school:

• The provision offers a nurturing, outdoor-focused learning experience for students aged with a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social Emotional Mental Health, ADHD, and other learning differences.
• The setting is not a typical classroom. The School works from a homely, therapeutic base, specifically designed to support a small number of students, and place a strong emphasis on outdoor learning, which allows a connection with students on an emotional level first, creating the trust and security they need to thrive both academically and socially.

About you:

As an SEN English Teacher, you will:-
• Hold a QTS, QTLS or equivalent teaching qualification (English specialism preferred)
• Experience working with young people with SEN, particularly those with autism and SEMH needs.
• A calm, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent approach to teaching and behaviour management.
• Confidence in delivering both indoor and outdoor education
• A team player who thrives in a flexible, creative, and student-centred environment
• High resilience, excellent communication, and the ability to remain composed under pressure
• DBS check required and satisfactory employment references.
