Job description
A dedicated and inclusive SEN Secondary School is seeking a confident, adaptable, and compassionate Cover Supervisor to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs and who thrives in a structured yet flexible learning environment.

You will play a vital role in maintaining learning and continuity when teachers are absent, supervising classes across KS3 and KS4. Students at the school may have a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)., Supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain on task with set work
- Maintain a calm, safe and supportive classroom environment
- Promote positive behaviour and manage low-level disruption using school behaviour policies
- Provide support to students with SEN, ensuring accessibility and engagement for all learners
- Work flexibly across subjects and year groups in line with the school's curriculum
- Liaise with teaching staff and SENCO to understand individual student needs and effective strategies
- Offer pastoral support where required, building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Assist with administrative or support duties when not required for cover

Experience working with children or young people in a school, youth work or care setting - essential
- Confidence in managing classroom behaviour and encouraging student engagement
- A calm, nurturing, and consistent approach
- Understanding of or interest in SEN practices, including Autism, SEMH, and learning difficulties
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to follow school policies and routines effectively
- A willingness to be flexible and work as part of a dedicated team
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)

Desirable (but not essential):
- Previous experience in a SEN or alternative provision setting
- Knowledge of strategies such as Zones of Regulation, visual supports, Makaton, or PECS
- Team Teach or equivalent behaviour management training
