Job summary

Abbey Hill Academy and College, in partnership with St Bart's Multi Academy Trust, seeks a dedicated individual to provide high-quality PPA and short-term absence cover, mainly within our most complex classes.

Working under a qualified teacher, you will plan, deliver and assess lessons, support pupils' social and emotional wellbeing, liaise with parents and external agencies, and help with resources, exams and supervision.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver teaching activities to individuals or groups under supervision.
• Assess, record and report pupil progress and attainment.
• Liaise with staff and external professionals to support pupils.
• Use learning objectives to plan and adjust lessons.
• Support pupils' social and emotional wellbeing and involve parents in learning.
• Liaise with external agencies and provide specialist support to pupils with difficulties.
• Manage classroom resources and prepare stocks.
• Provide PPA cover and short-term class cover as required.
• Supervise pupils not on the regular timetable and invigilate exams.

Job description

The successful candidate will be working alongside a team of caring, enthusiastic, dedicated staff, who are well-supported by their Senior Leadership Team., To provide high‑quality PPA (Planning, Preparation, and Assessment) and short‑term absence cover, primarily within the school's most complex classes. Operating under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher, the postholder will deliver a holistic curriculum that integrates academic subjects, therapeutic interventions, EHCP targets, Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) sessions, and PSHE to support vulnerable pupils with diverse and complex needs.,

• Plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individuals, small groups and/or whole classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary under the overall direction and supervision of a qualified teacher
• Assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment
• Liaise with staff and other relevant professionals and provide information about pupils as appropriate
• Use teaching and learning objectives to plan, evaluate and adjust lessons/work plans as appropriate within agreed systems of supervision
• Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils' learning
• Support pupils in social and emotional wellbeing, reporting problems to relevant teams/staff within school
• Support the role of parents / carers in pupils' learning and contribute to meetings with parents / carers to provide constructive feedback on pupil progress/achievement etc
• Liaise with external agencies on a regular basis
• Provide specialist support to pupils with learning, behavioural, communication, social, sensory or physical difficulties
• Provide specialist support to pupils where English is not their first language
• Provide specialist support to gifted and talented pupils
• Provide specialist support to all pupils in a particular learning area (eg: specific subjects)
• Allocate work to other classroom support staff
• Be responsible for the preparation, maintenance and control of stocks of materials and resources
• To provide PPA cover
• To provide short term cover of classes as required
• Be responsible for pupils who are not working to the normal timetable
• Invigilate exams and tests
