Job Title: SEN College Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Poole
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start: Immediate or September 2025
Contract: Full time/Permanent

Are you ready to inspire and support young adults with Special Educational Needs in their journey to independence? GSL Education are excited to offer an opportunity for an adaptable SEN College Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Poole.

About the School: The school is an education setting based for + years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.

Responsibilities:

• Provide one-to-one and group support to learners with Special Educational Needs, assisting them in accessing the college curriculum.
• Support teaching staff in delivering tailored learning programmes focused on personal development, vocational skills, and academic progress.
• Help learners build confidence, independence, and communication skills through practical and classroom-based activities.
• Assist with behaviour management and promote a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Liaise with staff, families, and external professionals to ensure cohesive support for each learner.
• Prepare resources and maintain a safe, organised learning space.

Requirements:

• Experience or strong interest in supporting young people with Special Educational Needs in an educational setting.
• Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with learners who have diverse needs, including behavioural and communication challenges.
• A collaborative and flexible approach to working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to follow guidance and engage in ongoing professional development.
• Ideally need a valid driving license and be willing to drive.
• An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
