Job summary

Connect2Hampshire is seeking SEN Caseworkers to manage Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments for children with special educational needs within Hampshire County Council. You will handle a caseload of around 250 children, ensure statutory processes are followed, and provide guidance to parents, schools and professionals.

Role requires experience in SEN legislation, strong communication and the ability to work under pressure, with travel across the county and proficiency in Capita One,

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SEN legislation, statutory frameworks and processes.
  • Experience in local authority settings managing large caseloads (250+).
  • Proven communication and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage EHC needs assessments within locality and 20-week timescales.
  • Lead annual reviews and coordinate transition plans.
  • Authorise transport following policy guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records on SEN databases and case files.
  • Attend review meetings and make recommendations on provision and placement.

Job description

SEN Caseworkers managing Education, Health, and Care (EHC) assessments for children with special educational needs within Hampshire County Council.

Role Overview
  • Manage EHC needs assessments for a specific locality, handling approximately 250 children.
  • Ensure statutory processes are followed, including assessments, reviews, and transitions.
  • Provide advice to parents, schools, and professionals aligned with legislation and policies.
  • Maintain accurate records on SEN databases and case files.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct statutory assessments within 20-week timescales, including preparing reports and amendments.
  • Lead annual reviews, monitor progress, and coordinate transition plans.
  • Authorise transport for children with SEN, following policy guidelines.
  • Manage day-to-day casework, prioritise tasks, and ensure consistency across cases.
  • Attend review meetings, compile case information, and make recommendations on provision and placement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • At least 12 months in a similar local authority role, with experience managing 250+ caseloads.
  • Strong understanding of SEN legislation, statutory frameworks, and processes.
  • Skilled in communication, conflict resolution, and working under pressure.
  • Proficient in IT systems like Capita One, Excel, and SharePoint.
Working Conditions and Qualifications
  • Fast-paced, high-stress environment requiring flexibility and countywide travel.
  • Requires a good education, with 'A' levels or equivalent, and experience in education administration.
  • Must have a current driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Decision-Making and Value Addition
  • Make informed decisions on assessments, placements, and transport exceptions.
  • Act as a mentor, represent the LA at reviews, and ensure compliance with deadlines.
  • Focus on maintaining quality, accuracy, and consistency in statutory responsibilities.
