Job description

We are seeking a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEN 1:1 Support Assistant to provide tailored support for a child with special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping a pupil to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally within the school environment. Starting September 2025.

Duties as a SEN 121 Support Assistant:

• Work closely with a named pupil with an EHCP to provide consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.

• Support the child’s access to learning, including adapting resources and activities to meet their specific needs.

• Promote their independence, self-confidence and inclusion within the classroom and wider school life.

• Implement strategies recommended by external professionals (e.g. speech and language therapists, educational psychologists).

• Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil and communicate effectively with the class teacher, SENDCo and parents/carers.

• Support with personal care or emotional regulation if required.

Ideal SEN 121 Support Assistant:

• Experience working with children with additional needs, particularly on a 1:1 basis (desirable).

• A calm, nurturing and flexible approach.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as a SEN 121 Support Assistant.

• An understanding of SEND and safeguarding practices.

• Commitment to promoting inclusion and high expectations for all children.

• Relevant qualifications or willingness to undertake training (e.g. autism awareness, Team Teach, ELSA).
