Accounts Assistant

Package: £30,000-£40,000 (dependant on experience), study support, 20 days holiday

Working hours: Monday - Friday (9am-5pm)

Location: Caterham

An award winning accountancy practice based in Caterham, are recruiting for an experienced accounts assistant/semi senior accountant, to join their growing team. Offering a competitive salary range from £30,000-40,000, option to work from home 1 day a week, 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, study support, and more.

In this role you will provide a high standard of technical service to clients, ensuring accurate and timely delivery. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious accountant, looking to become chartered, and to progress within a reputable practice, that value their contribution



Accounts Assistant Job Overview

  • Working from client provided and in-house done bookkeeping to prepare and complete corporate and small limited company and self-employed accounts
  • Preparing corporation tax returns (CT600) with appropriate calculations
  • Completing self-assessment tax returns for individuals and self-employed traders
  • Assisting in-house bookkeepers with their accounting and software queries especially when needed to correct errors and updating and reconciling ledgers
  • Liaising with clients to obtain information to complete above tasks
  • Complying with financial laws, regulations and standards alongside in-house policies
  • Reporting discrepancies and issues (including potential fraud) to senior management
  • Software used includes Xero, Sage (Cloud and 50), Freeagent and QuickBooks. You should also be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • You should be able to demonstrate good communication skills and be able to manage time effectively and efficiently ensuring deadlines are met with excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Keeping personal accounting qualifications up to date


Accounts Assistant Job Requirements

  • Part ACA or ACCA qualified is advantageous. Also AAT qualified is suitable
  • Experience of dealing with company and self-employed accounts and tax returns including dealing with HMRC
  • Good working knowledge of one or more cloud accounting software packages and be able to demonstrate complete understanding of general bookkeeping tasks.
  • Good Microsoft office (especially Excel) skills
  • Polite telephone manner and good interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Accountancy practice background preferred


Accounts Assistant Salary & Benefits

  • Competitive salary range dependant on experience ranging from £30,000-£40,000
  • Full time role - Monday - Friday - 9am-5pm
  • 20 days holiday, plus bank holidays, plus Christmas & New Year closure
