Job summary

Connex Education Partnership is seeking a dedicated SEMH Tutor for one-to-one sessions in the Rubery area, Birmingham. The role focuses on supporting pupils with SEMH needs through flexible hours, typically 2-hour sessions, with opportunities for additional hours.

The ideal candidate will have experience in education settings as a teacher or SEN tutor, strong behaviour management skills, and a patient, empathetic approach to helping learners re-engage with learning.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
• Experience as a Teacher or SEN Tutor.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent communication and collaborative work with families and professionals.
• Patient, adaptable and empathetic approach.
• Ability to motivate learners with diverse needs and backgrounds.
• Access to transport and willingness to travel within the local area is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one tuition and mentoring support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Plan and deliver personalised learning programmes tailored to individual goals.
• Adapt teaching strategies to engage reluctant, anxious, or disengaged learners.
• Support pupils to develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and positive learning behaviours.
• Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and progress.
• Work with parents, carers, schools, and local authorities to support development.
• Monitor progress and provide regular feedback and session reports.
• Create a safe, supportive, and motivating learning environment.
