Do you thrive in a nurturing, resilient, and rewarding environment? If so, GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a specialist setting based in North Shields. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who want to make a positive difference in the lives of students who face barriers to learning due to emotional or behavioural challenges.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students across Key Stages, providing one-to-one and small-group support to help them regulate their emotions, stay engaged in learning, and develop social skills. You will play a pivotal role in creating a calm, consistent, and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students who require SEMH support.
  • Implement tailored strategies to help students overcome emotional barriers to learning.
  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering lessons suited to individual needs.
  • Promote self-esteem, resilience, and independent behaviour management.
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress and emotional well-being.
  • Liaise with SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external agencies when needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or similar needs.
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent under pressure.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, or equivalent (desirable but not essential).
  • Excellent communication skills and a caring, empathetic nature.
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply via GSL).

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay rates of £84-110 per day, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Dedicated consultants offering tailored support throughout your placement.
  • Opportunity to work in settings that prioritise emotional well-being and personal growth.
  • A chance to truly make a difference in young lives every day.

If you are ready to make a real impact and support students on their journey to success, we want to hear from you. Apply now to join a compassionate and dedicated team this September.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks; including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
