Job summary

Spring Brook Upper School, Failsworth, part of New Bridge Multi Academy Trust, is recruiting three Level 2 Teaching Assistants (SEMH). Salary NJC scale 5-11 £25,583-£28,142 p.a. full time; actual pro rata £20,292–£22,323 p.a. 34 hours per week (195 days).

Commencing 1 September 2026. Closing date 13 July 2026. These roles require experience with challenging behaviour and complex needs, with an empathetic, resilient approach to supporting SEMH learners.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience of working with young people who present with challenging behaviour and complex needs, preferably within a primary educational setting.
  • A nurturing and empathetic approach to behaviour management.
  • The physical and emotional resilience to support students with complex needs, taking a non‑judgemental approach.
  • The ability to support teaching and learning within an SEMH setting to a dedicated group of students.
  • The ability to monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to stakeholders.

  • The ability to model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to cater for the general welfare of students.

The Trustees are looking to recruit to the post of 3 x Level 2 Teaching Assistants (SEMH).

Spring Brook Upper School, Failsworth.

NJC scale points 5 -11: £25,583 - £28,142 per annum (full time, full year salary).

Actual salary pro rata: £20,292 to £22,323 per annum.

34 hours per week / Term Time plus 5 days (195 days).

SEN allowance: £1,539 per annum.

Commencing September 2026.

Part of the New Bridge Multi Academy Trust, Spring Brook School caters for pupils with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. The school operates on a split site basis with the primary provision based in Hollins and the KS3 provision based in Failsworth.

Spring Brook Upper School is a unique place where pupils aged 11‑14 are nurtured and developed to encourage independence and skills for life. Their social, emotional and mental health needs are at the forefront of our work. We offer a joined up, topic‑based curriculum which suits our learners’ needs. The school also operates specialised intervention groups where pupils can focus on the development of a range of skills from social, emotional and mental health to a range of academic subjects.

Due to the complex needs of our students, high levels of emotional and physical resilience are needed in dealing with challenging behaviour. However, the knowledge that our work is making a positive impact in helping the young people to grow and work towards independence brings great reward.

We currently have vacancies for experienced, resilient and highly committed Level 2 Teaching Assistants to join the fantastic team at our secondary provision based in Failsworth.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate how they meet the following essential criteria:

  • The ability to work in partnership with classroom teachers to differentiate appropriate interventions for students in relation to the curriculum.
  • The ability to work as part of a team using own initiative when needed.
  • Willingness to participate in own professional development.

Salary: NJC scale points 5 -11: £25,583 to £28,142 per annum (full time, full year salary).

Actual salary pro rata: £20,292 to £22,323 per annum.

Allowance: SEN allowance - £1,539 per annum.

Hours of work: 34 per week / Term Time + 5 days (195 days).

Status: Permanent.
