Job description

SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rugby, CV23
Weekly Pay Rate: 395 - 430 (After Tax & NI Deductions)
Start Date: 28/04/2025
Days: Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
Hours: 8:30am to 3:30pm
Contract: Long-Term Temp to Perm

Are you passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs and looking for a rewarding long-term opportunity?

Long Term Futures is working closely with a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Rugby (CV23) to appoint a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support children across Key Stage Two. This long-term role is ideal for someone experienced in behaviour support and building positive relationships with pupils who need emotional guidance and structure.

About the Role
You will be working across Year 3 and Year 4, supporting two pupils with EHCPs who require tailored, 1:1 support throughout the school day:

  • AMs: Providing 1:1 support to a Year 3 child with SEMH needs, working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies that support regulation, engagement, and progress

  • Supporting behaviour management using calm, consistent strategies and de-escalation techniques

  • Delivering targeted interventions, emotional check-ins and supporting break-out activities

  • PMs: Working with a Year 4 pupil with learning and SEMH needs, providing tailored academic support while encouraging emotional resilience and independence

  • Assisting with classroom transitions and helping the child access learning in a calm, focused environment

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children with SEMH, behaviour needs and EHCPs

  • Can build trusting relationships with children and provide a structured, consistent presence

  • Is confident delivering short, engaging interventions or emotional support sessions

  • Has a nurturing, patient and empathetic approach

  • Holds relevant experience or qualifications (e.g. TA Level 2/3, Psychology, Youth Work or Education-related background)
