Job summary

Aspire People are seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with behavioural and emotional needs in a UK primary setting. You will work 1:1 and in small groups to implement strategies, de-escalate behaviours, and help pupils regulate emotions.

The role involves building trusted relationships with students, collaborating with teachers and SEN staff, and contributing to personalised plans to help pupils succeed within a traditional classroom environment.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience working with children or young people with SEMH/behavioural needs.
  • Experience within a UK school, alternative provision, youth setting, or similar environment.
  • Calm and consistent approach.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Resilience and emotional maturity.
  • Genuine commitment to helping vulnerable children succeed.

Responsibilities

SEMH Teaching Assistant - Behaviour & Emotional Support

Do you have experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural difficulties, or emotional regulation needs ?

Aspire People are currently working with primary schools looking for resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants who can help pupils overcome barriers to learning.

This role would suit someone who understands the importance of building trust and consistency with children who may struggle with behaviour, emotional regulation, relationships, or engagement within a traditional classroom environment.

Your ability to remain calm, build positive relationships, and understand the reasons behind behaviour will be crucial.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group SEMH support
  • Supporting pupils with challenging or dysregulated behaviour
  • Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Helping children develop emotional regulation strategies
  • Supporting behaviour plans and agreed school strategies
