Job description

SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Erdington

Duration: Full time, on going

Salary: £85 – £100 per day

The School/role:

An amazing special needs school in Erdington are currently looking for a fulltime SEMH Teaching assistant. The school is a community special school with students SEMH this requires conducting thorough assessments to accurately identify and understand the social, emotional, and mental health needs of all pupils, ensuring that each individual’s unique challenges and strengths are recognised and addressed.

This will include supporting teachers with material preparation for lessons, assisting with displays and providing direct 1 on 1 or small group student support.

The ideal candidate for a SEMH Teaching Assistant role should:

  • Demonstrate experience or a strong interest in supporting children with SEMH
  • Possess prior experience collaborating within the SEMH Department
  • Exhibit flexibility, proactivity, and patience
  • Show nurturing and compassionate qualities in their approaches
  • Communicate effectively within a team

A new enhanced DBS will be needed for this role or a subscription to the DBS update service.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teaching Assistant OR Relevant SEN Background
  • PECS and Makaton training/experience
  • SEMH needs experience
  • Level 1 safeguarding certificate
  • Recent school based references
  • Valid Photo ID – Driving Licence or passport
  • Full DBS – on the update service
