Job summary

A primary education provider in Bradford is seeking a SEMH Learning Support Assistant to support a Year 3 pupil with specific emotional and mental health needs. This rewarding role involves providing one-on-one assistance, fostering a safe learning environment, and working collaboratively with school staff. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, a calm demeanor, and a deep understanding of emotional safety and trust-building. Qualifications

  • Experience in SEMH or safeguarding highly desirable.
  • Confidence supporting children with challenging behaviour.
  • Strong ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Two recent references (work or education-based).

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with SEMH needs.
  • Support emotional regulation and engagement with learning.
  • Create a nurturing environment for the child.
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and safeguarding team.
  • Supporting transitions, routines, and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Encouraging confidence, independence, and emotional resilience.
  • Being a consistent, reliable role model.

SEMH Learning Support Assistant (Primary) – BD2, Bradford

We’re working with a welcoming primary school in the BD2 area of Bradford who are seeking a caring, resilient, and empathetic Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with SEMH needs, who is also on a Child Protection Plan.

This is a highly rewarding role for someone who understands the importance of consistency, trust, and emotional safety. You’ll play a key role in helping the child feel secure, regulated, and ready to engage with learning, while working closely with school staff and external professionals.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

What we’re looking for:
  • Experience working with children (professional or voluntary) – SEMH or safeguarding experience is highly desirable
  • Calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach
  • Confidence supporting children with challenging behaviour linked to trauma or unmet needs
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build safe, trusting relationships
  • A clear understanding of professional boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities
  • Two recent references (work or education-based)
