Job Vacancy: SEMH Teacher - Southampton

Location: Southampton, Hampshire

Position: SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teacher

Start Date: September 2025

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent


We are looking for a passionate, resilient, and committed SEMH Teacher to join a dedicated team in a specialist setting in Southampton. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges, helping them build the skills and confidence needed to thrive in education and beyond.


About the Role:
  1. Teach students with SEMH needs in a supportive and structured environment.
  2. Develop and deliver differentiated lessons to meet the individual needs of students.
  3. Implement behaviour management strategies and provide emotional support to students.
  4. Work closely with a team of support staff, SENCO, and other professionals to create and maintain individual education plans (IEPs).
  5. Support students in managing their emotions, building resilience, and improving their social and academic skills.
  6. Track and monitor students' progress, providing feedback to students and their families.

About You:
  1. QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) with experience in teaching students with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or alternative provision.
  2. Experience in managing behaviour positively and implementing de-escalation techniques.
  3. Ability to provide a calm, supportive, and consistent learning environment for students with complex needs.
  4. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of professionals.
  5. A passion for supporting young people to overcome their barriers to learning and fulfil their potential.
  6. A commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
