Job summary

The Basildon Academies are seeking a motivated SEMH Support Assistant to join our Upper Academy, supporting reintegration, social and emotional progress for vulnerable learners within our Enhanced Provision. You will work under the Head of Provision, contributing to a safe learning environment and consistent relationships as students progress.

This is a 1-year fixed-term contract, 39 weeks a year, 37 hours per week, on-site with outreach duties.

Qualifications

  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills (Level 2 English & Maths).
  • Effective ICT use to support learning.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Patient, encouraging and resilient demeanour.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage wellbeing in a high pace environment with exposure to trauma.
  • Must be mobile with a valid driving licence and access to a car.

Responsibilities

  • Support learners' reintegration and transition back to their referring setting, ensuring continuity of care and positive outcomes.
  • Deliver outreach support to referring schools within the South Quadrant.
  • Work with a compassionate team to support social, emotional and academic progress of vulnerable learners.
  • Contribute to the SEMH Enhanced Provision to help every child reach their potential.
  • Provide high-quality targeted support to develop social and emotional skills.
  • Work under the Head of Provision to maintain a safe learning environment and consistent relationships.

Job description

We pride ourselves on being a truly inclusive academy, and this is actively underpinned by our motto 'Aspire Believe Achieve'. We run our own in-house Enhanced Provisions to provide support for young people, guided by the values of Trauma Perceptive Practice (TPP). Evolveis designed to offer early intervention and support for students with significant social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs in their transition from KS2 to KS3. Our aim is to provide a nurturing, therapeutic environment where students can overcome barriers, build resilience, and re-engage with their education. This provision is based at our Upper Academy and is where the successful candidate will begin their BA career. The role:

  • To support learners' reintegration and transition back to their referring setting or named provider, helping to ensure continuity of care, consistency of strategies, and positive long-term outcomes
  • Deliver outreach support to referring schools within the South Quadrant
  • To work as part of a compassionate, professional team to support and enable the social, emotional and academic progress of vulnerable learners
  • To contribute towards the positive impact of the SEMH Enhanced Provision where every child has hope and the opportunity to reach their own potential regardless of their starting point
  • To provide high-quality support for children who require targeted support to develop their social and emotional skills
  • To work under the professional direction of the Head of Provision, including contributing to a safe learning environment, consistent relationships, teaching, and assessment, The Basildon Academies is focused upon developing the whole child; our curriculum has been developed to enable our students to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills so that they will become lifelong learners. This includes opportunities for linguistic, mathematical, scientific, technical, human, social, physical and artistic learning so that students make progress in a wide range of subjects.

We set high expectations of all our students and this, in turn, ensures we create a positive climate for learning in which every student can reach their full potential. Our Academy is a calm, orderly and purposeful environment where students enjoy their learning, make good progress and feel safe. Our Sixth Form is a major part of the academy with the structure modelling itself on developing independent learning skills like those seen in universities which allows students to continue their studies in their specialist subject areas. Students are very much encouraged to become mature adults being engaged in many aspects of the life of the academy which further develops those much needed skills to go on into university or the world of work.     We wish to recruit a motivated SEMH Support Assistant on a 1-year fixed-term contract who is committed to helping all students achieve their potential. Salary Range: Band 3 FTE£28,351 - £30,681. Actual starting salary £24,316 with performance-based yearly increments Working Weeks: 39 weeks (Term Time) and Parent/Open evening as required Working Hours: 37 hours per week (On Site 08:00 -16:00 Mon/Thurs and Outreach 08:00-15:30 Fri) Contract: 1 Year Fixed
