Job description

Job Title: SEMH Sports Coach
Location: Wakefield, WF4
Salary: GBP86-GBP100 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are currently looking to appoint a motivated and skilled SEMH Sports Coach to support students in a dynamic school in Wakefield. We are seeking someone who has a strong interest in sports and physical development and is committed to supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Role Overview:
As a SEMH Sports Coach, you will use sports and movement-based activities to support students in developing their behaviour, confidence, and teamwork. You will play a key role in helping students manage their emotions and engage in positive routines throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured sports and physical education sessions adapted for students with SEMH needs.
  • Support students during lessons, break times, and transitions across the school day.
  • Track student progress in engagement, participation, and personal development.
  • Encourage teamwork, resilience, and respect through sport-based approaches.
  • Help create a safe, supportive, and active learning environment.

Requirements:

  • A recognised coaching qualification (e.g. Level 2 in Sports Coaching, PE, or related subject) is preferred.
  • Must be Team Teach trained and confident in using positive behaviour techniques.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ADHD, trauma, or behavioural challenges is desirable.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Must have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply through GSL Education.
