Job summary

Milk Education is seeking an experienced SEMH Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs across South Tyneside. The role involves long-term assignments starting October 2026, with a focus on building resilience and helping pupils re-engage with learning in a supportive environment.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups across mainstream schools, specialist provisions and PRUs, implementing tailored activities and positive behaviour strategies to

Qualifications

• Recent hands-on experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
• Experience in mainstream primary or secondary schools, specialist SEMH provision or PRU settings.
• Understanding of positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Support pupils in mainstream schools, specialist provisions, PRUs and alternative settings.
• Help pupils re-engage with education and access lessons.
