Job description

SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Are you experienced in SEMH, SEBD, or ASD? Do you have a background in managing challenging behaviour? Have you completed Team Teach or MAPA training? Do you have experience covering lessons, tutoring, or teaching small groups?

This specialist school in Harlesden (NW10) is seeking a SEMH Learning Support Assistant with experience working with challenging children and young people. The school is a specialist Alternative Provision catering to students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools.

The successful SEMH Learning Support Assistant will have the opportunity to work at an outstanding school renowned for its expertise in special education, curriculum, and resources.

Applicants must have experience working with students with mental health issues and complex SEN needs. The school is committed to providing a safe, stable, and supportive learning environment for all young people.

The role involves working with secondary-aged pupils with SEMD, SEBD, and challenging behaviour, ranging from KS2 to KS4. Personalised education plans are used to support student success.

This position starts ASAP, with interviews scheduled after half-term. It is a full-time, long-term role with the potential to become permanent.

Key Skills and Requirements:
  1. Excellent behaviour management skills
  2. Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  3. Flexibility to teach or cover a range of lessons when needed
  4. Experience working with children with SEMH in a special needs environment
  5. Experience working with secondary-aged pupils
  6. Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to develop appropriate activities
  7. Experience assessing children with learning difficulties and working with colleagues to identify needs
  8. Ability to liaise with professionals such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists

Requirements include:

  1. SEN, EBD, and ASD experience
  2. Current DBS on the update service
  3. Classroom experience with primary or secondary students
  4. Experience teaching a range of subjects
