Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a proactive SEMH Learning Mentor to support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs in Hartlepool.

The role is full-time, starting in September 2026, with a temporary-to-permanent contract. You will work to build positive relationships with pupils, supporting learning both one-to-one and in small groups, and collaborate with teachers to tailor support to individual needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience of providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Resilient, proactive and positive by nature.
  • Right to Work in the UK and DBS clearance or willingness to obtain it.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to SEMH pupils in lessons and around school.
  • Support pupils to manage emotions and behaviour to promote positive learning.
  • Collaborate with class teachers to adapt approaches to individual learning needs.

Prospero Teaching is looking for a passionate, proactive and enthusiastic Learning Mentor to support the learning of pupils with SEMH in one of our inspirational Alternative Provisions in Hartlepool to start in September 2026 on a Temporary to Permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to build positive relationships with pupils and have a long-term, positive impact on their lives, progress and development.

About the School:

  • The role is based in an inspirational Alternative Provision in Hartlepool.
  • The School supports pupils aged 11-18 with varying levels of SEMH and SEND who have been temporarily excluded from mainstream School.
  • The School has an outstanding supportive culture and Leadership Team, where staff work as a Team within classrooms to provide high standards of support to pupils.

Pay, Hours and Contract:

  • Hours – 08.30-15.30, Monday to Friday
  • Contract – Full-time until the end of the Academic Year in July 2027. Temp to Perm Contract.
  • Start Date – September 2026

About the Role:

  • A key part of the role will be providing one-to-one and small group support to individuals with SEMH needs, helping them manage their emotions and behaviour in lessons and around School.
  • The School supports pupils with varying levels of SEMH aged 11-16 who have been excluded from mainstream School and require extra support with their learning and engagement.
  • A key part of the role will be to develop an understanding of the different needs and learning styles of different pupils within the classroom, working closely alongside Class Teachers and colleagues to establish this.

Experience/Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Supporting Teaching and Learning or Childcare-based Qualification (desired)
  • Experience of working with Children in Schools in the UK
  • An ability to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils and staff.
  • A resilient, proactive, and positive nature
  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide two professional references that cover the last two years
