Join Nurseplus as a Children & Young People's Support Worker - Make a Difference Every Day

At Nurseplus, every shift you work is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people.

We are looking for a compassionate, experienced and confident Children & Young People's Support Worker to join a bespoke alternative provision supporting children and young people aged 5-25 across Worcestershire.

The service supports young people with a range of additional needs, neurodiversity and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Some young people may require a higher level of personal care and, where appropriate, support with medical needs.

This is much more than a personal care role. The successful candidate will be someone who can build trusting relationships, provide positive encouragement and guidance, mentor young people and help them engage confidently in their environment.

If you are passionate about supporting children and young people and have the experience, patience and compassion to help them thrive, we would love to hear from you.

Why Choose Nurseplus?

Flexibility that Works for You: Choose your shifts and availability, allowing you to fit work around your life.

Weekly Pay & Competitive Rates: Earn between 13.15 and 18.50 per hour, paid weekly, depending on shift pattern. Higher rates apply for nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Paid Industry-Leading Training: We pay for you to attend our comprehensive, industry-leading training, aligned with the Care Certificate and Core Skills Training Framework.

Ongoing Development Opportunities: From in-house training to funded qualifications such as NVQ Levels 2 and 3, we support your professional development.

Blue Light Card: Enjoy thousands of discounts on the high street and online with eligibility for a Blue Light Card.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Children & Young People's Support Worker, your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing compassionate and person-centred support to children and young people with additional needs, neurodiversity and SEMH needs.
  • Providing personal care and intimate care, including toileting, continence support and nappy/continence pad changes, where required.
  • Supporting young people with washing, dressing and other personal hygiene needs, while always maintaining their dignity, privacy and independence.
  • Being confident and comfortable supporting young people with personal care needs in a respectful, sensitive and professional manner.
  • Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with young people.
  • Mentoring and encouraging young people to develop confidence, independence and life skills.
  • Supporting engagement in educational, recreational and therapeutic activities.
  • Providing emotional support, reassurance and positive guidance.
  • Supporting young people who may display behaviours that challenge.
  • Following individual care, support and risk-management plans.
  • Supporting with medical needs where trained and required.
  • Communicating effectively with colleagues, families and other professionals involved in the young person's support.
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every young person is treated with respect.
  • Encouraging young people to reach their potential and participate positively in their learning and development.
What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 6 months' experience working in the UK healthcare sector.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, learning disabilities, autism, neurodiversity or SEMH needs is mandatory.
  • Previous experience providing personal care, including toileting, continence care and nappy/continence pad changes.
  • Confidence and willingness to provide intimate and personal care to children and young people as part of their daily support.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships.
  • A caring, patient and compassionate approach.
  • The ability to remain calm, professional and positive when faced with challenging situations.
  • The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good written and verbal English.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own car.
  • The flexibility to travel to establishments across Worcestershire.
  • The right to work in the UK. Please note that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
  • A clear enhanced Children and Adults DBS, which you can apply for upon registration.
A Role Where You Can Make a Real Difference

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced care professional who wants to use their skills in a different environment and make a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people.

The successful candidate will receive the same level of training, support and development as other members of the team. There is also the potential for the right candidate to progress into a permanent position with the organisation.

As part of the recruitment process, candidates will be invited to meet the organisation in person. Candidates may also be asked to bring something that demonstrates their approach to providing care, love, support and guidance to a young person. This could be something that reflects their previous experience, values or approach to working with children and young people.

If you are passionate about helping children and young people feel supported, valued and empowered, we would love to hear from you.
