Job summary

Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a SEMH Behaviour Intervention Assistant to support pupils with SEMH needs in a South Manchester specialist provision. The role involves promoting positive behaviour, aiding emotional regulation, and supporting learning across small groups and 1:1 settings.

The post starts in September in a full-time capacity, with ongoing professional development and close collaboration with teachers and SEN teams.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people.
  • Experience supporting individuals with SEMH needs.
  • Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Resilient, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Implement and follow individual behaviour support plans
  • Use effective strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviour
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation and social skills
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to support engagement and attendance
  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons and adapting materials where required
  • Monitor, track, and record pupil progress and behaviour
  • Provide support during unstructured times such as breaks and transitions
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN teams, and pastoral support
