You’ll develop valuable administrative, customer service and organisational skills, as well as an understanding of how housing services operate in practice while working towards your Level 3 qualification in Business Administration.

In the role, you will provide administrative support to the Selective Licensing team, which involves:

  • Processing licence applications

  • Issuing licences

  • Conducting tenant referencing

  • Providing support, information and advice to landlords and tenants via telephone and email

  • Keeping our records up to date

To find out more about the role, please see the Job Description and Person Specification in supporting documents.

Where could this lead?

The knowledge, skills and experience you gain will provide a strong foundation for future opportunities across the sector, including areas such as:

  • Selective Licensing

  • Private Sector Housing

  • Strategic Housing

  • Homelessness Services

  • Housing Advice and Support

  • Wider Local Government roles

What are we looking for?

You don't need any previous experience. We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, keen to learn and genuinely interested in developing a career in housing.

You will need Level 2 English Language & Maths qualifications (GCSE or equivalent).

You’ll enjoy working with people, be willing to take on new challenges and have a positive approach to learning.

We’d like to hear from people who can:

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Evidence excellent IT skills and ability to use Microsoft Office

  • Build positive relationships with a range of people

  • Provide excellent customer service in a professional and helpful manner

  • Manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

  • Work accurately and pay attention to detail

  • Work effectively as part of a team

Please note: To be eligible for this apprenticeship, applicants must meet standard apprenticeship funding requirements, including the right to work in the UK. Applicants who already hold a qualification in a related subject area may not be eligible.

What can we offer in return?

You’ll join a successful and highly supportive team who will encourage you to grow and thrive in the role.

  • A salary whilst you gain experience and study towards a qualification

  • 27 days annual leave per year (plus bank holidays!), rising to 32 with 5 years’ service

  • Access to our flexi time scheme

  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), one of the UK's leading public sector pension schemes

  • Access to a number of other employee benefits including discounts at high street and online retailers, an employee assistance programme, counselling and physiotherapy services

  • Free parking on site at Dunedin House

  • Potential to work part of your week at home once you’re up to speed

This is an excellent opportunity to join Stockton‑on‑Tees Borough Council, where we create a positive and inclusive working environment to deliver the best outcomes for our communities.
