Overview
Security Services Group (SSG) is the MOD's Technical Authority for electronic and physical security. SSG provides in-house expert advice, design, installation and maintenance of electronic and physical security systems across Government, prioritised towards Secret and Above Secret, and items ACTO. SSG is part of GUARDIAN and is positioned within Standing Joint Command to support UK homeland security and resilience. SSG's operational delivery teams are the MOD's specialist in-house security providers, delivering project management, design, installation and 24/7, 365 days a year maintenance with a global reach. The team is independently audited to ensure ISO 9001:2015 and NSI compliance and accreditation, as well as the MOD's internal compliance regime. The Head of SSG is also the MOD's Head of Specialism for Physical Security across the MOD.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated professional to join us as a Production Manager within SSG's Production, Development, and Support (PDS) team located at MOD Sealand. Reporting directly to the PDS team leader, the Production Manager will oversee all aspects of the production of SSG's electronic security capability AC12M. This role involves direct line management of a team of technical specialists.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the production of SSG's electronic security capability AC12M, including line management of a team of technical specialists.
- Manage procurement and ensure production stock is controlled and accounted for; collaborate with the SSG commercial team to achieve best value for money and regulatory compliance when purchasing products or services from external suppliers.
- Ensure operation and output of the production team complies with ISO9001, ISO45001 and IPC-A-610 standards.
- Deliver a timely AC12M quality bespoke product catalogue in line with industry standards and customer demand; support and advise SSG Ops Project Managers in system design and best-practice solutions using the SSG product range.
- Drive continuous improvement throughout the production lifecycle; maintain AC12M test procedures, configuration management and document control including ownership of the AC12M catalogue.
- Conduct regular progress meetings with the team to manage workloads and enable accurate reporting; manage team performance with mandatory and functional training and identify training needs with the PDS training development manager.
- Line manage a production technical team delivering outputs to time, cost and quality; provide full financial, quoting, ordering and procurement outputs with clear financial breakdowns to the SSG finance team.
- Interpret and develop technical requirements to deliver functional solutions; perform functional testing of board-level electronic security products and ensure certification per test procedures.
- Manage stock levels and purchasing to ensure high-quality, tested PCB modules are available for on-time production; perform QA inspection and testing of PCB modules and manage repair at component level if required.
- Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota and distribute/record customer satisfaction surveys with the SSG quality assurance function to maintain high service standards.
- Continuously improve the production team and, when required, deputise for the PDS Team Leader.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and good understanding of MS Office.
- Experience in line management of a technical resource, with proven leadership and organizational skills.
- Experience delivering administrative/business support functions and ability to create and continuously improve process and procedure documentation.
- Proficiency in business improvement and change management; strong decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Technical appreciation, ideally in the Security sector, with working knowledge of AC12M and data/IP networks.
- Working knowledge of British, European and UK government security standards, QA and H&S policies.
- Experience using stock/financial software (e.g., CASH) and ability to discuss background relevance to the role.
- Desirable: understanding of IPC-A-610 compliance and related testing standards.

- Salary: £36,530 plus Civil Service pension scheme contributions (£10,582) and benefits.
