Job Description:

Job Description

Gloucester Business Park, Gloucester - with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week in the office.

Are you a security or nuclear professional looking to take the next step in your career? Do you have a background in the civil nuclear industry, high hazard environments or security, along with the ability to produce high-quality technical documentation? If so, come and join EDF as a Security Protected Plant Lead!

The Opportunity

As the Security Protected Plant Identification (SPPI) Lead, you’ll coordinate and deliver the SPPI process across supported nuclear licensees. This process forms the foundation of the nuclear security case by identifying and assessing assets against the UK Design Basis Threat (DBT) to ensure appropriate protection measures are in place. SPPI is key to meeting legal and regulatory requirements and supports security planning across the life cycle of the UK civil nuclear Licensees.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a starting salary of £55,000 (negotiable), and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll lead the delivery of the SPPI program across all phases of the nuclear lifecycle, from initial design through to decommissioning and to transfer. This includes overseeing the production, verification, and submission of SPPI files, along with supporting documentation such as Engineering Advice Notes (EANs). You’ll coordinate with suitably qualified personnel and manage submissions through the ONR Security Directorate’s assessment and approval process.

You’ll ensure SPPI files remain accurate and current by scheduling and leading regular reviews in collaboration with licensees and central functions. This will require extensive stakeholder management and influencing. The role also involves contributing to the development of subsequent security work from which the SPPIF provides the basis and foundation, where you’ll provide input to inform effective and proportionate security planning.

You’ll support Licensees in developing temporary alternate security plans and help integrate wider findings from other working groups. This may include Radiological Protection, Operations, Engineering, etc. Acting as a key link between Nuclear Security and Design Authority teams across HPC, SZC, and Nuclear Operations, you’ll ensure alignment across essential groups as well as on a regulatory front.

Who you are

You will have security or nuclear experience. You’ll have some practical experience and a track record of specifying, designing, and producing technical documentation to a high standard, often within suites of interconnected reports and advice notes.

You’ll demonstrate a good working knowledge of physical, personnel, and cyber security systems, alongside experience operating within regulated environments. Strong stakeholder management is essential, as is the ability to present complex technical information clearly—both in writing and verbally. A high level of computer literacy and numeracy is also expected to support accurate, efficient technical work.

We’re looking for someone who can operate confidently across multidisciplinary teams, with proven ability to maintain high standards in documentation and communication. Knowledge of UK nuclear security regulations and legislation is desirable, along with an understanding of current civil nuclear nuances.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 5th May 2025

Please note that candidates must be eligible for and willing to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
