Job description

Role Overview

Our client, a group of companies, is seeking to recruit an additional Security Officer to join their new and evolving in-house security team.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a candidate looking to grow and evolve their security career, learning from highly experienced mentors and subject matter experts. You will be a key part of a growing team that is seeking to develop a cutting-edge security capability, making best use of world-class techniques and emerging technology to protect a highly varied range of sites and assets across the enterprise.

Reporting to the Security Operations Team Leader, you will join their Control Room Operations team in a challenging and dynamic role that requires individuals who can adapt to a variety of situations and maintain a high level of vigilance at all times.

The position is shift-based, covering days, nights, weekends and bank holidays, with shift patterns in place to ensure round-the-clock security coverage for the client. You will work 3-day, 3-night and 3-off rotation, allowing you to plan your work cycle several months in advance.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ops Control Room triage: You will primarily be responsible for monitoring, assessing and managing the collective risk-based ecosystem across the property and site portfolio primarily from the ‘Ops Room’ for the duration of your shift. This serves as the overall triage function for security management across the business. You will be expected to learn the normal activity baseline of key sites and systems, striking the balance in managing situations autonomously but learning the appropriate and proportionate escalation point e.g. to Head of Security, Emergency Services.
  • Alarm and CCTV Response: The core role function is to promptly respond to and manage all alarm activations and CCTV alerts at client premises, assessing situations quickly and accurately and taking appropriate proportionate action in line with established-protocols.
  • Patrols: When required, conduct thorough internal and external patrols at various client locations, identifying and reporting any security vulnerabilities or suspicious activity. Ad-Hoc travel to London sites will be required from time to time.
  • Locks and Unlocks: Perform secure opening and closing procedures at client premises, ensuring all entry and exit points are properly secured and following the specific instructions for each site.
  • Shift Handover: Provide comprehensive, clear handovers at the end of every shift, documenting all significant events, incidents and observations in detail.
  • Additional duties: Undertake other reasonable security related operational and capability development tasks (often across sites) as required by the business, Team Leader and Head of Security, adapting to client needs and evolving security situations.
  • Learning and Development: Actively engage in learning from experienced security expert team members and share learning from your own experiences.
  • Shift coverage: Demonstrate a willingness to cover additional shifts when requested to help maintain consistent oversight.
Person Specification and Eligibility
  • SIA Licence: Hold a valid Security Industry Authority (SIA) Public Space Surveillance (CCTV), Door Supervisor or Close Protections Operations Licence, keep the licence up to date and adhere to all SIO regulations.
  • Geographical Knowledge: Knowledge of the London area, including main routes landmarks and potential high-zones is an advantage.
  • Security Experience: Have previous experience in the security industry, preferably in control room operations and/or risk triage, with an understanding of security protocols, risk assessment and incident management.
  • First Aid Certification: Ideally hold a valid, in-date Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certification as a minimum.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to write clear, concise reports and communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and, where necessary law enforcement.
  • Problem-Solving Attitude: Solving Attitude: Exhibit a “can do” attitude and the ability to think creatively when faced with challenges, contributing ideas to improve security processes and service quality.
  • Driving Licence: Possess a full, clean UK driving licence; candidates with up to three points may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
  • IT Competency: Possess a good level of IT skills and be comfortable using security software, communication devices and basic computer applications.
  • Local Residence: This role is exclusively Central London based. Candidates MUST be able to commute to, and work in Central London. No accommodation is available.
  • Work Ethic and Reliability: Demonstrate high levels of reliability, punctuality and flexibility, with diligence and attention to detail across all aspects of work.
