Job summary

ABM is seeking a professional Security Officer to uphold safety and customer service at The Howard Centre in Welwyn Garden City.

You will patrol the shopping centre, assist visitors and tenants, and respond to incidents in line with site policies, maintaining a calm, vigilant presence and ensuring a secure environment.

This on-site role offers a competitive hourly rate (£14.29) with a 4on-4off pattern, comprehensive ABM benefits, and clear progression within a global facility services provider.

Qualifications

• Requirement to hold valid SIA Door Supervisor licence.
• Valid SIA CCTV licence is essential.
• First Aid at Work certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Interact with visitors and tenants to deliver first-class security and customer service.
• Carry out patrols across The Howard Centre, remaining proactive and vigilant.
• Respond to incidents in line with site procedures and coordinate with Control Room.
• Record non-conformances and emergencies and brief the Control Room promptly.
• Maintain secure areas and prevent unauthorised access by monitoring activity.

Job description

LOCATION: The Howard Centre, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6HA

SHIFT PATTERN: 4on-4off, 4 days 7am - 7pm, 4 off, 4 nights 7 pm - 7am. 42 hours per week

As the primary public face of the Security Team, the Security Officer plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment at The Howard Centre. A proactive, professional, and "can-do" attitude is essential in this highly influential role. The post holder is responsible for delivering exemplary standards of security, vigilance, and customer service to all clients, tenants, and site visitors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Readily interact with all visitors/tenants within the shopping centre, delivering first class customer focused service
• Carry out regular patrols of the shopping centre as detailed in the site assignment Instructions, being always proactive
• Continuously look for opportunities to be of assistance to visitors at the shopping centre, proactively helping wherever opportunities arise
• Safeguard all the sites are safe and non-threatening environment for all visitors/tenants.
• Ensuring all incidents are managed in accordance with site policies and procedure
• Liaising with site control room proactively reacting to incidents and ensuring colleagues are fully briefed and always supported
• Ensure any unsecure areas of the site are reported to Control Room immediately and action taken to resolve
• Record/log all non-conformances and emergencies with the appropriate control room operatives
• Deal efficiently and effectively with all emergencies ensuring the Centre team are kept fully always informed
• Intelligent understanding of human behaviour, monitoring and surveillance of suspect individuals, logging, and reporting incidents in line with site/company polices
• Maintain vigilance and highlight/manage unauthorised access by banned individuals
• Ensure radio procedures are always adhered to
• Ensure all events/incidents are recorded in the Security Officer notebook correctly and notebook policies are always adhered to
• Undertake any other reasonable duties as required to meet the needs of the business.
• Any other reasonable duties as requested by your line manager
• Ensure a timely response to all security issues and events
• Complete all training requirements as requested by line manager
• Be available to cover at least one additional shift per month if requested to cover absence/annual leave
• Liaise closely with the Environmental Services team delivering one service and highlight opportunities in working as one team

• Be professional, pleasant, friendly, courteous, and helpful always whilst carry out duties to thehighest standard

• Take ownership of all situations to ensure tasks are completed or escalated when necessary.

• Valid SIA Door Supervisor (DS) Licence
