The role

As aSecurity Guard, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Be the first point of contact for Devonport’s secure areas, delivering professional customer service while managing access to Limited Areas and other designated zones. This role is key to maintaining site security, safety, and smooth operations through confident communication and a proactive approach to visitor and contractor engagement.

Day-to-day, you’ll operate access control processes to ensure MOD compliance within Naval Nuclear at Devonport. Maintain site security by managing personnel access, verifying credentials, and enforcing protocols. Work closely with Babcock and MOD Security Teams to support a secure and compliant environment.

• Greet staff and visitors, manage access permissions in line with security protocols
• Monitor security through routine patrols, checks, and immediate reporting of suspicious activity to MOD police
• Respond to emergencies including alarms, medical incidents, and potential security threats across DRDL property
• Support emergency response efforts, including casualty rescue and collaboration with on-site security forces
• Promote a strong security culture by challenging non-compliance and working closely with the wider security team

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard

Essential experience of the Security Guard

• Works proactively using own initiative in a fast-paced environment
• Builds strong relationships while delivering outstanding customer service
• Makes effective, confident decisions under pressure
• Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
• Flexible to variable shifts and capable of conducting site patrols on foot or by vehicle

Qualifications for the Security Guard

Preferred – Security Industry Authority (SIA) Security Guarding (SG) (Front Line) Licence & SIA

CCTV Operator Licence – SG licence must be obtained on offer of employment and prior to starting.

Full clean UK Driving Licence with no restrictions.

GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
