Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a Security Officer for a frontline role at the Dartford Crossing on the M25. You will patrol on foot and in a 4x4, manage the safe convoy of hazardous goods and coordinate bridge closures when required.

You will monitor CCTV from the control room, assist cyclists crossing the river, marshal traffic, and respond to complex security incidents, liaising with emergency services. 6-month contract with a view to permanent.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence and ability to drive a 4x4 in all conditions.
• SIA licence desirable; company can sponsor training.
• Operational security background preferred (toll, police, campus).
• Resilient, adaptable and able to make decisions under pressure.
• Excellent customer service and clear communication skills.

Responsibilities

Are you looking for a security role that is anything but ordinary? I am currently partnering with a leading international infrastructure group who are leading the transformation of our industry to meet the challenges of the future, and we are seeking highly vigilant Security Officers to protect one of the UK's most critical transport arteries. This isn't just about watching a gate; it is a front-line, dynamic security position at the Dartford River Crossing where you will deal with everything from hazardous material convoys to emergency interventions.

Role Details

• Job Title: Security Officer

• Location: South Orbital Way, Dartford

• Rate: £18 - £20 per hour

• Contract: 6-month contract with a view to going permanent

• Hours: 12-hour shifts on a 4 on, 4 off rota (working 2 days and 2 nights, then 4 days off, requiring flexibility across 5-5 shifts)

What You Will Be Doing

• You will patrol the high-profile M25 security network site both on foot and in a 4x4 vehicle.

• You will manage the safe convoy of explosive and hazardous goods vehicles (processing around 250k per year), which includes temporarily closing the bridge for their transit.

• You will monitor and operate security CCTV systems from the control room.

• You will support the free transport of cyclists across the river via cycle trains.

• You will marshal vehicles, process dangerous goods, and prepare the Kent Marshalling Area (KMA) as an emergency services rendezvous point if required.

• You will respond to complex, high-stakes security incidents, which can involve dealing with illegal immigrants, the international terrorism register, or mental health and suicide interventions.

• You will act as a primary interface with the general public, Highways England, DVSA staff, and emergency services.

What We Are Looking For

• You must hold a full UK driving licence and be capable of driving a 4x4 patrol vehicle in all conditions.

• An SIA license is nice to have, but my client is willing to support career-driven candidates in obtaining this.

• You ideally come from an operational background (such as an Amazon warehouse), a toll booth role, ex-police, or previous security environments like university campuses.

• You must be highly adaptable, resilient, and capable of making confident decisions under pressure.

• You will possess excellent, courteous customer service skills and a clear, objective communication style.

All specific training will be provided on the job as part of your on boarding process.
