Security Officer

We are currently looking for experienced Security Officers to join our team. The successful candidates will have a keen desire to develop their security skills to maintain a safe and secure environment that supports the delivery our healthcare service.

Your core responsibility will be to supply an active security presence across the Trust's Hospitals - ensuring our staff, patients and visitors enjoy a safe, trouble-free environment and a positive experience of the Trust.

This position is a full time contract of 37.5 hours per week. The present shift pattern is on a rota basis to include days and nights.

Main duties of the job

The Security Officer role involves the managing of potential aggression and violence using a conflict resolution model, targeted crime reduction works and flexible security patrols. Plus the maintaining of car park security across the Trust. The extensive network of CCTV across the Trust plus the use of body-cams helps reduce the impact of crime and the successful prosecution of criminals.

Component knowledge and experience of conflict resolution skills and techniques are required for this demanding position onto which additional training will be provided to enhance your skills. We will help develop your skills to understand the special nature of an NHS security service; which is to care for patients and visitors often in pain, distress or a confused state. A full driving license is essential.

Job responsibilities

1. Attend all calls for assistance involving:

  • Those in fear of physical harm
  • Scenes of actual or suspected crime where personal injury is involved
  • Crime in progress.
  • Ensure that all security policies and procedures and read, understood and complied with.
  • Report all incidents of crime and violence, in line with the trusts incident reporting policy.
  • Ensure that the movement of cash collections on site is secure and complies with trust policy.
  • Perform traffic management duties; carry out enforcement of Civil Penalty Notices in line with the trusts car parking policy.
  • Respond to intruder alarms, inspect for signs of break-in, search for suspects, and liase with the Police.
  • Question and establish the bona fides of persons found unescorted in non-public areas who are not displaying valid identity badges.

Prevent unauthorised persons gaining access to the premises. Bring about eviction from the site as quickly and unobtrusively as possible.

Out of normal working hours, check the external doors and ground floor windows of premises to ensure they are secure
