We are currently recruiting for a highly capable and experienced Security Manager to oversee security operations across our construction sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in security management within high-risk and fast-paced environments, particularly in construction, civil engineering, or infrastructure sectors. This role requires a proactive and organized professional with a deep understanding of construction site protocols, legislative compliance, risk management, and team leadership.
As a Security Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining security strategies and protocols to protect personnel, equipment, and assets across multiple sites. You will manage on-site security teams, ensure compliance with industry standards, and serve as the main contact for all security-related matters.
This position is vital to the successful delivery of construction projects by ensuring safety and safeguarding against threats, disruptions, and incidents.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate security operations across multiple construction sites.
- Manage daily security deployments, site patrols, and ensure comprehensive coverage of access points and vulnerable areas.
- Monitor CCTV systems, electronic access control, and security alarms, ensuring all equipment functions correctly.
- Maintain a visible security presence to deter threats and enforce site protocols.
- Conduct inspections and audits of security systems, procedures, and guard performance.
- Recruit, train, and develop security personnel, ensuring they hold valid SIA licenses and CSCS cards.
- Hold valid SSSTS training and FREC certification for incident response.
- Schedule shifts, manage rotas, and ensure adequate staffing.
- Conduct briefings, toolbox talks, and refresher training on health & safety, emergency response, and conduct.
- Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and vigilance.
Compliance & Regulations
- Ensure full compliance with SIA regulations and HSE guidelines.
- Stay updated on legislation affecting construction and security, including GDPR and site safety laws.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop site-specific security plans, including emergency procedures.
- Coordinate with clients, local authorities, emergency services, and contractors.
- Handle security incidents, investigate, and report thoroughly, maintaining records and recommending actions.
- Provide reports to management, clients, and project teams.
- Review incidents to identify patterns and implement preventive measures.
- Manage modern security technologies like body cameras, drones, surveillance units, and access control systems.
- Recommend infrastructure upgrades such as fencing, lighting, and gates.
- Ensure technology maintenance, secure data storage, and staff training.
Client Relations & Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent the security team in planning meetings, site walkthroughs, and audits.
- Build relationships with clients, local councils, and law enforcement.
- Advise site managers on security concerns and risk mitigation.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Valid SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guarding Licence.
- Valid CSCS Card.
- SSSTS and FREC certifications.
- At least 5 years' experience in security leadership, preferably in construction or infrastructure sectors.
- Ability to manage large teams across multiple sites.
- Strong knowledge of site safety, CDM regulations, and relevant laws.
- Full UK Driving Licence and own vehicle.
- NEBOSH or IOSH Health & Safety qualification.
- Experience with tier-one contractors or major infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of ISO standards 9001, 14001, and 45001 related to security systems.
