Job summary

Sanderson Government & Defence is seeking a Security Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy and maintain security infrastructure across cloud and on‑prem environments for a high‑profile Defence programme.

You will work with cloud hosting, networking, virtualization, containerisation and enterprise security tooling, collaborating with technical teams to deliver secure platforms.

This on‑site role in Frimley, Surrey requires Active SC clearance (DV preferred) and pays £675 per day.

The Role

A leading defence-focused organisation is looking for a Security Infrastructure Engineer to support the design, deployment, and maintenance of security infrastructure across both cloud and on-premise environments. This role sits within a high-profile Defence programme and offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of technologies including cloud hosting, networking, virtualisation, containerisation, and enterprise security tooling.

You'll work closely with technical teams and stakeholders to design secure solutions, deploy new capabilities, enhance existing environments, and improve overall security maturity. This is a highly technical, client-facing position requiring strong infrastructure, networking, and security expertise.

As a Security Infrastructure Engineer, you will support the implementation and integration of security technologies across complex environments. You'll work across cloud and on-prem infrastructure, helping to build secure platforms, deploy security tooling, and ensure solutions meet operational and security requirements.

This role would suit someone with a strong infrastructure background who is comfortable working across networks, Linux systems, cloud platforms, and containerised environments within highly secure programmes.

Key ResponsibilitiesSecurity Infrastructure & Deployment

• Support the design and configuration of a wide range of security tools and technologies.
• Define infrastructure requirements including CPU, RAM, storage, and network bandwidth requirements for security solutions.
• Deploy and configure security tools within cloud-hosted and on-premise environments.
• Support the establishment and maintenance of virtual machines and containerised platforms.
• Apply security controls and compliance frameworks to infrastructure deployments.
• Assess existing solutions and provide recommendations to improve security capability and maturity.
• Provide technical SME support during deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting activities.

Networking & Platform Engineering

• Support the design and configuration of network security devices.
• Configure and manage routers, switches, VLANs, DNS, and related network services.
• Support identity management integrations and authentication services.
• Assist with cloud networking and secure connectivity design.
• Work across hybrid infrastructure environments spanning cloud and on-prem platforms.
• Understand and analyse TCP/IP communications to identify normal and abnormal network activity.

Testing & Solution Assurance

• Develop and execute test procedures to validate functional and non-functional requirements.
• Support system acceptance testing and deployment activities.
• Ensure deployed solutions meet security, performance, and operational requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across security infrastructure services.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Active SC Clearance (required).
• Strong experience supporting infrastructure and security technology deployments.
• Experience working with cloud platforms and on-premise environments.
• Knowledge of virtual machines, container technologies, and secure platform deployment.
• Experience designing and configuring network infrastructure including:
  • Routers
  • Switches
  • VLANs
  • DNS
  • Network Security Devices
• Linux administration experience including package management and scripting.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking principles and traffic analysis.
• Experience integrating security tools with identity and access management solutions.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure and security issues.
• Experience working directly with clients and stakeholders.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Desirable Skills

• DV Clearance or eligibility to undergo DV clearance.
• Experience within Defence, Government, or other highly regulated environments.
• Experience with container platforms such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of cloud hosting and security services across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Understanding of security compliance frameworks and secure design principles.
• Experience deploying enterprise security tooling including monitoring, detection, or security management platforms.
• Scripting experience using Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
• Experience working within consultancy environments.
