Job summary

Harrington Starr seeks a Security Engineer focused on Detection Engineering in a greenfield setup. You will own the detection and response platform, shaping security controls across applications, infrastructure and cloud in a fast-growing environment.

You will collaborate with the CISO, engineering and operations to evolve security architecture, monitor threats, and drive secure development practices across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Strong professional experience in Security Engineering / Information Security.
• Experience with SIEM, security monitoring and/or incident response.
• Background in software development, operating systems or systems administration.
• Strong problem-solving and risk-management skills.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

Security Engineer - Detection Engineering

We're working with a growing investment fund looking for a Security Engineer to build and strengthen its security foundations.

This is primarily a Detection Engineering role, with ownership of designing and building the detection and response platform in a greenfield environment.

The Role

You'll work closely with the CISO, Engineering and Operations teams, with significant opportunity to influence security architecture and build scalable security capabilities.

Key areas include:

• Building and owning the detection and response platform
• Designing and implementing security controls across applications, infrastructure and cloud
• Security monitoring, detection engineering and incident response
• Authentication and authorisation architecture
• Internal certificate authority architecture
• Developing and enforcing security standards and policies
• Embedding security into development and deployment workflows
• Making architectural decisions to support rapid growth

What We're Looking For

• Strong professional experience in Security Engineering / Information Security
• Experience with SIEM, security monitoring and/or incident response
• Background in software development, operating systems or systems administration
• Strong problem-solving and risk-management skills
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS, GCP or Azure
• Cloud-native security tooling
• Experience within financial services
• Familiarity with financial regulatory requirements
