Job summary

Apollo Research is seeking a Head of Security to own security end-to-end as the first security hire. You will define the security programme, partner with frontier AI labs, and shape security for engineering. You will manage tooling, automate operations, and drive ISO 27001 / SOC 2 compliance while maintaining AWS/GCP security posture.

This in-person role is based in London with flexible hours and WFH options. Lead a small team, work closely with the CEO, and sponsor UK visas as needed.

Qualifications

• 7+ years experience in security engineering, security operations, or a related technical security role.
• Experience building or maturing a security programme.
• Familiarity with cloud security (AWS IAM, networking, infrastructure review).
• Experience with ISO 27001, SOC 2 compliance frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with endpoint management (Kandji, Jamf, or similar) and identity/access management.
• Experience administering Google Workspace.
• Ability to review infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and application code (Python) for security issues.
• Experience as a security point of contact for external partners or customers.
• Demonstrated interest in AI safety.

Responsibilities

• Build and own Apollo's security programme.
• Maintain the trust of frontier AI lab partners.
• Set security direction for engineering.
• Define how Apollo uses AI tools, agents, and integrations.
• Own the security tooling stack and automate security operations.
• Drive compliance and certification (ISO 27001, SOC 2).
• Own IT administration across the organisation.
