Job summary

Skipton Building Society is seeking a Solutions Architect with a passion for security to shape the future of technology. You will be a core architect, designing end-to-end solutions across a complex landscape while embedding security by design.

We operate in a hybrid model, typically three days per week in the Skipton office with two days from home. You will partner with product, delivery and engineering teams to ensure secure, scalable platforms and reusable architectures.

Qualifications

• Strong solution architecture expertise across enterprise-scale technology solutions.
• Security-minded approach embedded throughout design and delivery.
• Knowledge of security controls across identity, data, cloud and modern tech environments.
• Experience with APIs, cloud-native design, DevSecOps and Zero Trust.

Responsibilities

• Turn strategic ambitions into practical, deliverable solutions in collaboration with engineering and product teams.
• Design end-to-end technology solutions aligned to enterprise architecture and target-state capabilities.
• Partner with product owners and delivery leads to translate complex requirements into clear designs.
• Guide technical decisions balancing short-term delivery with long-term sustainability.
• Provide architectural governance across the delivery lifecycle.
• Identify risks and opportunities to improve simplicity and coherence.
• Champion modern architecture approaches including API-led integration and reusable platforms.

We’re looking for a Solutions Architect with a passion for security to help shape the future of technology at Skipton.

This isn’t a traditional “security gatekeeper” role. You’ll work as a core Solutions Architect first, designing end-to-end solutions across a complex technology landscape—while bringing deeper expertise in security to ensure everything we build is secure, resilient, and trusted by design

You’ll play a key role in helping us modernise our platforms, simplify our architecture, and embed security into how we deliver technology—not bolt it on afterwards.

We work in a hybrid way, balancing flexibility with collaboration. For this role, you'll typically spend three days a week in our Skipton office, with the remaining two days working from home.

What You’ll Need

• Strong solution architecture expertise with experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale technology solutions.
• Security-minded approach, embedding security principles throughout solution design and delivery.
• Knowledge of security controls across identity, data, cloud and modern technology environments.
• Experience designing resilient, scalable architectures that balance risk, usability and delivery outcomes.
• Familiarity with modern architecture patterns (APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture, cloud platforms) Azure experienced preferred
• Proven ability to work collab oratively across business, technology, engineering and risk stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to explain complex concepts and support decision-making at all levels.
