Job description

Sector Category Lead - Aerospace & Threat Representation, Ashford

This role is part of the Australia Sector Commercial & Supply Chain Function at QinetiQ. The Sector Category Lead is responsible for category management, supply chain advisory, and support services for the Threat Representation Business Unit (BU). The role supports growth and contract delivery across regions, with flexibility to support other BUs as needed.

Reporting to the Supply Chain Director, Australia Sector, this senior position manages Direct Materials spend and develops programs related to this business. Responsibilities include all aspects of category management, cost reduction, strategy development, and process improvements across sub-categories and multiple business units.

The role also acts as a strategic supply chain advisor and works collaboratively with sector leadership and functional teams to deliver high-quality supply chain activities. The position allows for adaptive working, with the home site possibly in Farnborough, requiring regular travel to Ashford, Kent.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Develop and own Category Management Strategies for threat-representative capabilities.
  • Advise stakeholders on Supply Chain, Procurement, and Category strategies, including Make vs. Buy and risk management.
  • Improve supplier market competitiveness and product/service offerings.
  • Contribute to product development, inventory, and demand planning strategies.
  • Collaborate with other Supply Chain functions and manage supplier relationships.
  • Align the Australia Sector supply chain with QinetiQ Group policies and best practices.
  • Identify and qualify new suppliers, manage procurement activities, and ensure value for money and compliance.
  • Provide market intelligence and lead Supplier Relationship Management activities.
  • Coordinate with the Trade Compliance team on export/import shipments.
  • Ensure sourcing strategies comply with security and national security restrictions.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders across BU, Group Supply Chain, and external partners.
Support to the Supply Chain Director – Australia:
  • Implement a global supply chain supporting business strategies and market conditions.
  • Develop supplier relationships to support growth and sustainability.
  • Achieve sustainability, social value, and legal compliance objectives.
  • Standardize Supply Chain & Procurement procedures across the Australia Sector.
Key Capabilities / Knowledge:
  • Understanding of Category Management principles and procurement models.
  • Experience in process and cultural transformation across supply chains.
  • Deep knowledge of end-to-end supply chain management including ERP systems.
  • Strategic thinking and stakeholder influence skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving and adaptability.
  • Strong communication skills and results-oriented mindset.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • 5-10+ years in senior Procurement, Category Management, or Supply Chain roles, preferably with transformation experience.
  • Degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Category Management frameworks, stakeholder engagement, and working in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with regulated products import/export and ERP systems is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel.
