Job summary

CLARUS EDUCATION in Uxbridge is seeking a part-time Section Manager for Creative Arts to lead and develop provision across UAL programmes. You will plan, deliver and quality-assure courses, manage a small teaching team and collaborate with colleagues to support student progression.

The role focuses on Thursday and Friday delivery, with a clear emphasis on curriculum development, assessment standards and maintaining high teaching quality within a thriving FE environment.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a degree in the relevant subject area.
  • Must have a Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g. PGCE in FE or DET).
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in Art/Design or Media, preferably in Further Education.
  • Experience in curriculum co-ordination and development.
  • Experience leading/supervising a team.

Section Manager – Creative Arts

Uxbridge

Part time – 14.4 hours per week

We are seeking to appoint a part time Section Manager for Creative Arts. The working days are expected to be Thursdays and Fridays. Based at our Uxbridge Campus, working alongside another part time Section Manager you would be responsible for planning, implementing and delivering courses, focusing on UAL programmes. You will develop provision, teach on a range of programmes and line manage a team of teaching staff.

We are seeking someone who can demonstrate the following:
  • Qualified to degree level in a relevant subject area
  • Full Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (PGCE in FE or Secondary/DET or equivalent)
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in Art/Design or Media, preferably in Further Education
  • Curriculum co-ordination and development experience
  • Experience of maintaining high standards of teaching, learning and assessment
  • Experience of leading/supervising a team
Main scope of the post:

Full time study programmes currently offered by the section include UAL Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media (TV, Film & Games Design), Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma in Creative Media (TV, Film & Journalism & Games Design), Level 1 and 2 UAL Diploma in Art & Design, Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma in Art and Design, Fashion Design and Graphic Design. All study programmes include maths and English and work experience elements.

DUTIES
Marketing and Recruitment of Students
  1. To organise recruitment activities and ensure the appropriate guidance and initial assessment of students.
  2. To liaise with internal and external teams/organisations/parties, as directed by the Head of School, to ensure the effective and efficient recruitment and guidance of students.
  3. To ensure staff attend promotional events and activities and contribute to the positive promotion of the School and section, to include employers in order to contribute to the School’s employer engagement targets.
Support for Students
  1. To ensure the implementation of the College’s Tutorial strategies, including the effective use of Attendance Co-ordinators and named tutors.
  2. To ensure the implementation of the College’s Basic Skills strategy.
  3. To ensure the sharing, organisation and up-dating of resources are accessible to staff and students.
  4. To implement the College Careers and Guidance Policies.
  5. To liaise with the Learning Support team to ensure that students receive maximum benefit from these services.
Design and Delivery of Programmes
  1. To teach on a range of programmes according to your specialism (see above for courses currently offered in the section; courses are subject to change)
  2. To co-ordinate and advise on the production of all relevant course materials, including schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment schedules.
  3. To ensure the development and implementation of new schemes, including submissions to awarding bodies.
  4. To ensure that College policies for the delivery of curriculum, including functional skills, are implemented fully.
  5. To maximise the use of IT within the curriculum.

To ensure the courses maximise the students’ employability skills through the integration of employer involvement within the curriculum design and to build on the schools/ sections employability targets in conjunction with the Head of School

Qualifications:
  • Degree in the relevant subject area
  • Level 5 or above teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g. DET, PGCE or equivalent)**
Experience:
  • Recent successful teaching experience in the subject area to learners aged 16-18
  • Industry experience or experience as practitioner in field of Media/Art and Design
  • Curriculum management/co-ordination experience
  • Experience of delivering UAL programmes
  • Understanding of quality assurance, curriculum and funding issues
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with local employers
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the relevant subject area
  • Ability to support Lecturers in their teaching practice
  • Experience of leading/supervising a team
