Currently, alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-its-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This project is a key part of plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic and experienced Section Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project at our new site in Redcar and Cleveland.

What you'll be doing

Engineering Control

  • Carry out complex setting out;
  • Provision of 'primary' setting out control and recognition of the optimal installation locations;
  • Coaching in setting out techniques;
  • Perform calibration checks on equipment.

Quality

  • Produce Activity Control Plans;
  • Use the Specification as a reference;
  • Maintain comprehensive quality record files;
  • Identify, raise, and action Non-Conformance Reports;
  • Raise Technical Queries with possible solutions.

Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Produce Method Statements and Risk Assessments;
  • Prepare and raise Temporary Works Briefs;
  • Conduct 'short term', Visitors Induction;
  • Complete Accident Book and reports;
  • Participate in Safety Drives;
  • Use Observation tools for improvements and excellence.

Productivity

  • Assist in weekly programming and KPI tracking;
  • Communicate weekly targets to the workforce;
  • Create and maintain daily diaries for BIM 360;
  • Drive safe output and identify waste streams for performance.

Commercial

  • Monitor wastage against budget and KPI through weekly measures;
  • Perform labour and plant reconciliation;
  • Identify additional work items and notify accordingly;
  • Work within the terms of relevant subcontractors and suppliers.

Who we're looking for

The following qualifications and experience are required:

  • Ability to carry out complex setting out;
  • Experience in producing ACP;
  • Understanding of construction tolerances;
  • Knowledge of Specification and contract documents;
  • Experience with permit systems and raising permits to work;
  • Proactive hazard identification and control implementation;
  • Understanding of the 3-week stage programme;
  • Good grasp of key contract documentation;
  • Clear understanding of subcontractor and supplier terms.
