Job description

Job Title: Section Engineer - Railway

Type: Contract, 6 months

Location: Ruislip

Day Rate: Dependant on experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Section Engineer to join a major rail infrastructure project valued at £25 million. The role focuses on the delivery of complex permanent works for a new railhead development and involves significant interaction with key subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee engineering activities related to permanent works including:

    • Sheet pile installation
    • Reinforced concrete pile caps
    • Soil anchors
    • Permanent drainage
    • Highway construction
  • Provide technical support and guidance to site engineers.

  • Prepare and manage Health & Safety documentation including RAMS, WPPs, TBS, and relevant permits.

  • Ensure Safe Systems of Work are in place, including Permit to Dig and Temporary Works processes.

  • Act as Temporary Works Supervisor, ensuring compliance with design and safety standards.

  • Review and assess constructability of upcoming works to mitigate risk and ensure efficient delivery.

  • Liaise with subcontractors to coordinate and monitor timely delivery of:

    • RAMS

    • ITPs

    • Permits and consents

  • Coordinate with internal teams including Logistics, Utilities, and Community Relations.

  • Implement and maintain robust Quality Assurance processes with full documentation.

  • Present 6 week lookahead programmes to stakeholders and senior management.

  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Key Skills & Experience Required:

  • Strong background in rail or major infrastructure projects.

  • Proven experience in managing subcontractors, ensuring quality and safety compliance.

  • Technical understanding of piling, drainage, soil anchoring, and reinforced concrete structures.

  • Previous involvement in similar large scale railway / infrastructure schemes is highly desirable.
