Job summary

Aldwych Consulting in Cumbria is seeking a Section Engineer to join a flagship highways programme on a permanent, long‑term basis. The role focuses on delivering safe, buildable works on site and mentoring junior engineers.

You will coordinate temporary works, integrate design with construction, and drive compliance with CDM and BS 5975 while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to optimise delivery.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
• Proven experience as Section Engineer or Senior Engineer on highways or major civil schemes.
• Strong understanding of temporary works principles and design coordination.
• Delivery‑focused approach integrating design, planning and construction.
• Excellent communication and coordination within multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver highways and civil engineering works in line with programme, quality and safety requirements.
• Coordinate with Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers to ensure temporary works and design intent are integrated into construction methodology.
• Plan and manage temporary works implementation, including permits, RAMS and assurance processes.
• Provide technical support to site teams, resolving buildability challenges and managing interface between design and construction.
• Review drawings, specifications and temporary works designs to ensure constructability and compliance.
• Participate in design reviews, constructability workshops and readiness reviews.
• Promote safe working practices and continuous improvement across the project team.
• Support and mentor Site Engineers and junior staff with technical delivery guidance.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with BS 5975, CDM Regulations and company procedures relating to temporary works and engineering assurance.

• Support and mentor Site Engineers and junior staff with technical and delivery guidance.

Requirements
