Exciting Opportunity for a Section 278/38 Clerk of Works in the East Midlands

As the Section 278/38 Clerk of Works, you will oversee the inspection of new highway works carried out by developers and contractors under Section 278 and Section 38 agreements. Your role will ensure the safe and compliant adoption of roads into the public highway network, verifying that infrastructure is delivered to specification and on schedule.

Main duties include:

1. Inspect highways infrastructure under S278 and S38 agreements to ensure compliance with local authority standards and specifications.
2. Monitor construction quality, safety standards, drainage, surfacing, lighting, and signage installations.
3. Identify and report defects or deviations from approved drawings and specifications.
4. Liaise with developers, contractors, and internal technical teams to support project delivery.
5. Maintain accurate records of site visits, inspections, and correspondence.
6. Support the final adoption process through snagging and remedial actions.
7. Advise on the release of bonds or sums when applicable.

Key experience required:

• Experience in highway inspection or supervision, especially on S278/S38 developments.
• Knowledge of local authority highways procedures and relevant legislation.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specs.
• NRSWA Supervisor accreditation.
• HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent (desirable).
• Full UK driving license and willingness to travel across the East Midlands.
• Strong communication skills and a solution-focused approach.
